General Information/Rules & Regulations 

 

  • Choirs are encouraged to enter multiple competitions. Each entry requires a separate online form and a separate fee which can be paid by bank transfer or by cheque. Account details can be found here 

  • Singers in the “Primary School/Children’s Choir” competition must be 13 years old or younger. Singers in the Youth Category must be 18 years old or younger. 

  • The winner of Folk Music, Open Category, Sacred Music and Barbershop Chorus competitions will automatically qualify for the Festival Grand Prix competition on Saturday evening. A final qualifying place will be awarded as "Judges Wildcard" for the most entertaining non-first-place performance in these 4 large-choir categories. If a choir wins 1st place in two competitions, they must choose which competition to represent, and the runner-up from the other competition will qualify.

  • All choirs that enter the Saturday competitions are encouraged to take part in at least one other public festival event. Details of which are listed here

  • By applying to take part in the festival all applicants consent to photographs being taken of their performances at any part of the event and grant the Fingal International Festival of Voices the right to use them for promotional material in the future.

  • Professional choirs are not eligible to enter the competition. 

  • All applications will be reviewed by the artistic committee. Successful applicants will be informed and invited to the Festival. 

  • Ensembles may enter as many competitions as timetabling allows.

  • Ensembles must have been in existence for 6 months prior to competing in the competition. This rule applies only to ensembles competing in the grand prix qualifying , large-choir competitions i.e Sacred Music, Open Category, Barbershop Chorus and Folk Music competitions.

  • Each competing ensemble must have a minimum of 8 singers (excluding the barbershop quartets/small ensemble competition).

Repertoire

  • Repertoire cannot be repeated in any competitions except for the Grand-Prix where up to two pieces may be reprised.

  • Changes to the submitted programme are not permitted, which includes changing the order of pieces.

  • Programmes which exceed the maximum allocated time will incur a penalty.

Other

  • By participating in the Festival, ensembles agree to abide by all rules and regulations of the Festival.

  • All ensembles must provide four original copies of sheet music to the festival committee after selection is confirmed. Illegal reproduction of music may result in disqualification. 

  • The Festival timetable is subject to change.

  • Decisions of the adjudicators are considered final.

  • The Artistic Committee reserves the right to cancel individual competitions, or the Festival, if the appropriate number of entries are not met.

  • Entry fees are non-refundable, except to choirs who are not selected for competition.

  • Overseas participants are asked not to make private arrangements to perform in other venues during the Festival without prior consultation with the Festival Artistic Director.

  • All participating singers will receive free entry to all events of the Festival.
